"C'est l'histoire d'une société qui tombe et qui au fur et à mesure de sa chute se répête sans cesse: jusqu'ici tout va bien, jusqu'ici tout va bien, jusqu'ici tout va bien... L'important c'est pas la chute, c'est l'atterrissage..."
Gradually, the sky was growing dark. The Sun was going out to give way to a cold and stormy night. Soon it was black enough so I could not recognize my path through the wood. I had to think about finding a place where I could sleep. I should not have ventured in this disquieting forest so late.
Now I dreaded to stay somewhere unknown. The trees were beginning to become strange with their branches like monster paws ready to seize you at any moment. I had to hurry up in spite of my dismay. I am sure that the wolves which were prowling in the vicinity would get much enjoyment in devouring me.
I was wandering alone in the night. To find a shelter in the wood was hopeless. After all, nobody could live around here, so far from civilization. I was progressing desperately in the dark.
All of a sudden, I saw a light far off. I was relieved as it were. I headed towards it as fast as I could. This soft lighting came in fact from a torch fixed on the coarse wall of an old house. There was something terrifying in this scene. It was as if its host was waiting for me.
Then the door opened by herself with an appalling creaking. It made my blood run cold. The wind rushed inside with a long gloomy moan. I did not see any other solutions, I went in taking the flame with me. I was scared stiff.
The room was empty save for a mirror prettily decorated with a wooded frame. A Door banged. Then I felt a frozen breath on my neck. I was petrified. My fright made me hold my breathing. There was not anybody beside me. Nevertheless I noticed that there was somebody next to my reflection.
It was a young woman with an incomparable beauty and a snow-white skin. Although she was moving, everything let me believe that she was dead. I could read on her face one of the most violent displeasure I have ever seen. I feared the consequences of my intrusion here. Incapable of moving, I burst into tears. That intensified her scorn. She was staring at me severely.
